That's true...the E8400 Wolfdale & 4GHz go hand & hand now if you do a Google search on that...

Monday update:

I have it stable at 3.83ghz now. Under load cpuz shows 1.368v.

I enabled a setting called Load Line Calibration which raises the voltage under load instead of lowering it like before. So for instance I have it set to 1.378 in bios, cpuz shows 1.360 at idle and 1.368 under load.

It is getting hotter though, it's up to 54c normal max at normal room temp.
But I left the heater on and went out for a few hours while it was running prime95 and it saw 57c while I was gone. But that was with a room temp. that was too hot for me.

57c still isn't bad considering the max thermal for it is 72c.
So you're still well within thermal tolerances.

Well, I am off of work for the next 10 days so I will have plenty of time to put the screws to it and reach the 4ghz milestone.

Something interesting is that my motherboard isnt very good at math i guess.
When it displays the cpu speed on the post screen it is never right.
Cpuz is about to do the math correctly, but my motherboard is always wrong!

Update:

I have been running at 3.91 for about 2 weeks now. Seems smooth.
I'm starting to see higher temps in the 57 range now on a more regular basis. Only .08 to go till i get to 4ghz! Almost there.

Have your ambient temps held steady? You might want to check your fans and the seat on your cooler...?

bk2life
I studied your thread and the other similar ones during my OC attempts.

I am still holding at 3.91. I have not tried to push any more for a while.
Though I would like to go that last .9 and get an even 4.

I have a waterblock, pump and radiators on standby, I want to see if it will do 4 without them first though.

Really what happened is that I got all into the idea of water cooling and
I wanted to make my own waterblocks, so I got a small mill and converted it to CNC. So now I can machine custom waterblocks in copper, brass or aluminum if anyone is interested. I could do custom air heat sinks also. ( I am also setting up an anodizing line so I can color anodize aluminum parts I machine)

I will pick back up with the overclocking soon though, my CNC research is tapering down.
