Hmm, assuming that both cores are equally engaged in useful work 1.86 X 2 = an effective frequency of a single cored processor at 3.72 Ghz. A 20% overclock of the Pentium D proc is 3.36 Mhz. Who's to know the true arcania of this "shootout?" The E6300 uses less power, which is very fashionable.

I would run the 6300 if I could only run 1. But you have the D in a board already so why not run both. With a good board you could easily get the 6300 up to 3000mhz on air and then it will blow the doors right off the pentium D

Here is my former Pentium D 950 running on the Asus P5W DH Deluxe.

It is a liquid cooled setup I ran (And still run the same G.Skill today) G.Skill 6400HZ.
Here is a shot for you to look over

Note that that D is running at over 4800mhz!!

Now here is a 6400 Allendale clock @ 1400mhz slower yet it just rips the 32M time put up by the Pentium D (Presler by the way)

It will probably beat the D even if you keep it stock.

I realize this is an older thread but if I don't tell you then how will you ever know. So when it comes up again for anyone they will pick the right one as opposed to the wrong one. the only right choice was the 6300. No matter what app or game you had in mind...

So you see it is no contest that little 6300 you have is a true powerhouse by comparison..

...and the Ds are really HOT. They are easy overclockers, but the temps can get out of hand. I have over 30 of them in everyday use, I know.
