It has been over a year since i o/c the e8400 and honestly do not remember how and what i need to change. my system is: q9550 dfi lt p35 2 gig corsair dominator 800mhz tuniq tower cpu cooler vista 32 ultimate antec 900 case

| The DFI P35 board with a quad core is going to require some knowledge of GTL reference voltages and how the effect the OC. There are some great posts on GTL's at OCZ's website and the same posts have been duplicated on DFI's site. Once you have an understanding of GTL's I can be of some more help..

| I think i am going to put the e8400 back in this comp and get a p45 for the q9550.I enabled the gtl option in the bios and could not load into windows.I made no changes other than to enable the gtl.

| It's not so much that it has to be enabled, the values have to be set correctly. They will also have to be set correctly for a DFI P45 based board. I used to use DFI LP's exclusively, but to be quite honest, I can get the same results out of a Gigabyte or Biostar in a fraction of the time it takes a guy to clock his DFI. As an added bonus I get to stay out of knucklehead forums like XS and DFI..

| i am going to buy the gigabyte p45 board. the gtl was set at 110 for both of the settings(there are only 2 in my bios) if the setting is not right can you reccomend where to start with a different setting?the value options are 110-250

| Working from memory here.. Your board should go lower on the GTL's. Are you sure it is 110 at it's lowest point? 1.2 CPU VTT = 80 GTL ( + or - a few) 1.3 CPU VTT = 90 GTL " 1.4 CPU VTT = 100 GTL "

| mine reads: gtl ref voltage control enable/disable cpu gtl 1/3 ref volt 110(0-225) cpu gtl 0/2 ref volt 110(0-225) north bridge gtl ref volt 110(0-225) sorry about the earlier readings, got myself confused trying to remember.

| I am going to be heading out for the evening but when I get back I will dig up some charts and settings that should get you at least going forward.

| I found one of OCZ Tony's charts on GTL's. You will have to do a little trial and error as the 45nm CPU's seem to like a GTL reference voltage between 58 and 63% where the 65nm stuff liked it around 67% of CPU VTT. DFI P35 LP GTL Tables Explained - The Tech Repository Forums

| If you looking for an easy O/C...look at the Asus P5Q, been out for while now, others may have more updated suggestions for you...?

| I had a falling out with DFI, back in the 939 CFX3200 era. I tried the P35 LP just out of curiosity but quickly found out it wasn't anything better than the Asus P5K I already owned. Until Biostar starts slipping I will stick with them. Still have a Tforce 939 pushing an Opty 165 @ 3.0 with some old school BH-5 daily so they can't be all bad..

| There was a period about two years ago when I felt like being done with ASUS, too. After the A8N32 series there wasn't anything that spun my wheels. My faith has been renewed, however. This X38 Maximus Extreme has done everything I expected and then some with a Q6600. running 100% stable to 455fsb, and for benchmarking I have gotten it to 495x8. With its northbridge block, I can't recommend it enough, especially for watercooled rigs. I reckon they have gotten their act together a bit and are worth another try for you, but I'm sure you have another point of view
