Strange CPU Temp Readings

Hi,

I have a BadAxe2 with a QX6700 currently clocked to 3.2ghz (tho i cannot go any further and i`m going to submit a thread on here to get some advice). My question is that in the bios i get temps of 38c idle, in core temp (within windows) i get 38c idle but Intel TAT reports temps of about 10-15c higher than in core temp. Does this sound strange and which one should i really believe?

Cheers,

Most of these app vary one from another. I use core temp and am happy with that. None are giving you an actual reading of the die. I use the program to alert me of anything out of the ordinary.

Ok i`ll keep a close eye just in case. I presume my temps are ok for a clocked 3.2ghz QX6700? I have an arc 7 pro cooler on there at the moment but was wondering about changing it to either a Tuniq 120 or maybe a thermaltake? Would i be better off changing?

cheers,

The AP 7 is a good cooler. I would not bother. You may get better temps you may not.

PS those temps are fine.

Don't go by what TAT says at all because it wasn't made for Core Technology & therefore gives incorrect temp readings.
Use Core Temp, Real Temp or Speedfan instead which will give you much more accurate readings & it's what I use.
I use both for reading my system's temps...

Read this thread first for general info & then post on your results of your OCing & we'll go from there OK Clocker.
Btw, Welcome to the AOA forums!

Excellent, i`ll keep this cooler then

Yeah i was worried about temps mainly as their was a 20c difference between tat and core so not really knowing which is right stopped me from doing anything else, but now you have confirmed i`ll stick with core!

I shall gather some stats tonight and report back with the settings

Cheers Guys, glad their are people still willing to help with support on a D975XBX2

cheers,

Yea, I'm one of the few still using this board on a day to day basis & I can tell you this much.
I've now been OCing this board for over 2 years straight at 3.41GHz (1.4 vcore) & its rock solid stable still.

I don't know if this would still be the case though OCing it to 3.6GHz as that requires a vcore of 1.5v, an higher FSB, RAM & Southbridge voltages....& I'm not will to see how long it will last at higher voltages because I don't have the money to replace it if it fails on me so I'm staying at these clock speeds.

But I can give you the settings for 3.6GHz if you want to give it a go & see how long it lasts...
Also, because you are running a quad you may have to run even higher voltages than the settings I give you
for it to be stable.
But it will give you a good base to start from.

You can take a look at my last post on the linked thread. I am right now running RealTemp and CoreTemp for comparison and use the average to set Speedfan. Muff1n has lots of good info in the thread.
