They're more like dummies, than fakes. I'd be highly impressed if someone managed to make a fake CPU that actually worked! Would probably be worth more than the real thing, as a curiosity.

I'd say these packages have been carefully crafted just to be exactly the right weight, and appearance at a glance.

If the weight was wrong, someone working for the a distributor or shipping company might notice that a crate of them was too light.

Chances are someone has opened up a crate and done a switch, somewhere in the supply chain.

Arrow Video of the contents...

This is what was shipped out to the Newegg customers...

YouTube - 100_1206.MOV

Newegg said they were "Demo" items. If so, then why was there a lot of misspelling on the outside box???

I'm surprised they took as much trouble as they did. I mean that with the packaged closed you can't see all that much, once it's opened...well... the jig is up. This will be an interesting one to follow...This might be a collectors item somewhere down the line...or the beginning of the end for Intel! LOL

Pha.........this won't have any effect on Intel, unless Intel fails to aggressively pursue the counterfeiters.

@MUff1N: As far as Newegg and the 'Demo Units' thing, the article indicates that Newegg have released a statement in which they indicate their initial information was incorrect. The vendor ORIGINALLY mentioned was not in fact responsible; another vendor was, and that vendor relationship has been terminated.

This vendor, that vendor. Newegg is undoubtedly innocent. So are this vendor and that vendor. Nobody take responsibility anymore, all the crap lands on Joe Blue's plate.
