OK this is a situation I'm not altogether ready to accept, I can barely bring myself to say it!

Fedora took a quick look, said:

"Hey Dude! I see you've got yourself a Raid set there. You wouldn't want me to mess that up for ya would you? No! So why not accept this install which will format but leave your RAID partitions in place. So whatadda say, want try this my way?"

I was shocked into momentary silence! But Fedora must have seen my head wobbling and took that for a yes!

Here I am all RAIDED, Fedora'ed and ****! ":O}

I get some benchies...

Ok!

After a dozen attempts with each, Intel and Asus raid, and either getting terrible performance or complete failure to install to either of my on board raid setups, I've given up the ghost and gone and bought me one of those fancy lad Raid cards ]with all the pretty colors and trim!

(if you like black and low profile brackets)

Next time my Raid fails me I'll have the immense satisfaction of returning it and writing a really bad review for Newegg!

Couldn't really go where I wanted to with this, limited by my PCI-ex. Motherboard.

This one claims to PCI ex and PCI ex 2.0 compliant...hopefully that means further upward mobility when I get around to acquiring and new motherboard....many many moons from now...":O}

We will continue our saga next week when the new sheriff arrives to beat my Linux into submission, or at lest gets it to boot before it dies!

Damn, bought a controller card by Mistake!.... on and on and on

I've been thinking it over a bit....What I wanted from RAID was an increase in drive speed... MY SSDs being hampered by my SATA II MB. What I didn't like was...well it's RAID and Linux seems to reject it at least as often as she accepts it.

This card was bought by mistake after HOURS of pain staking research while trying to find a PCIe 1.0 SATA III RAID card. Yet it gives my new drives full SATA III band with or very near. I hear there's a 5gig limit on the PCIe bus. My SATA drives, if I understand correctly,

top off at 555mb read and 505mb write

So rather than RAIDing two 90 gig drives to create one fast drive, I'll have two 90 gigers running full speed. Doing RAID would have been fun . But the truth is that right now I'm kinda getting into playing with various distros, and I can't do that if I can't get them to load to my drives..

I realize that If I knew more I could probably get most Distros to work with RAID... but I'd spend more time getting them installed that enjoying them!

If there is a Massive black hole in my thinking please don't hesitate to point it out! ":O}

I've been moving all my drives about, next time I get Fedora installed I'll give it another try.
