Hands-on: new Fedora release goes up to 11 but doesn't rock

Damn I was hoping, been at this for hours, all i can get it to do is a flat box that Alt Arrow can make go 1234, then stop and you have to use the other arrow to go 1234, a real pita!

I'll see what can be done about compiz, I don't run compiz so I am a little in the dark here but I'll come up with something..

RealPlayer and Helix seem to have an issue with 64 bit right now, only information I could find said to try a nightly build, but that means you might have to try a nightly build for several nights..

I think I'm cool with this I'm almost always in Mint or if I need it this works fairly well. You've been a great help! I really appreceat your efforts to help me out with...well everything! ":O}

I wish I could be of more help. I tend to stick with more traditional and minimal linux distributions such as Gentoo, Arch and Debian.. RedHat has their own ideas and agenda that just doesn't seem to benifit the desktop linux user at times..

Fedora inevitably updates and fixes these annoyances. Time heals all broken code...well mostly...

Here one in Mint I can't figure out:

What does Mint want and how do I give it to her? OK I got it! I needed to open the on board Mint package manager and to do so I must first login...":O}

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that it may be time to move you into a distro with a different set of principles and ideals. Simplicity in design and implementation rather than multiple layers of crap designed to make it look simple to the end user.

Maybe we can talk about moving you into Arch Linux before the end of the year. Installing nvidia drivers (or anything else) in Arch really is as simple as opening a terminal and typing "sudo pacman -S nvidia". That's about all the learning curve there is.

Also we would benifit from not having to worry about a 6 month upgade cycle destroying the OS as Arch is a rolling release system.

I'm game...I'm getting what I need from Mint and feel good enough about Mint to leave Fedora behind for a while and explore the world with Cliff! ":O}

There's a few things I want to do. I want to check with you both for your guidance, but also because you've invested a bit of your time in my set up and I want to be sure you get to do anything you might have been wanting to try! ":O}

I currently have Mint on an older drive. 250 gig, I want to move it or recreate it on one of my two 320 gig newer drives. To do this I must dump either Fedora 10 or Fedora 11.

I think we have 11 far enough along that I can use it if I need to and can wait for Fedora to update her way out of her current limitations with real player and a few other niceties...

Your thoughts Cliff?

I don't have a problem with you moving your stuff around. It's your stuff, you can do as you please with it. Once you get it moved it will make walking you through my grub tutorial a lot easier. That way you can boot each of your OS'es from a single screen rather than having to F8 each time. We'll start exploring Arch soon and then you can leave the one of the remaining distro's behind as well.

I swapped the 250 gig with Patti. I now have One Fedora 11 drive, One Mint 7 drive and one spare drive all 320's and of course my Buffalo 1000 gig for back ups. Fedora is up to date...Mint 7 is still not update-able.

I can't duplicate the update problems you are having. My mint box updates fine, boots right back up.. I am pretty sure that is a grub problem but it is one of those deals where I would need to be behind the keyboard to fix it.

(This was a clean install of 7, just dumped 6 and started over again with 7)
