| If you have some work to do I would do it first before trying this, that way it case it breaks again you don't have to reimage.. It's an easy fix we just have to find where it thinks the OS is now. Do your update and if it fails to boot type this at the grub prompt hitting the "enter" key after each line root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-13-generic root=/dev/sda1 ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-13-generic then hit the b key

| Sorry no go with Grub again. I did the entries line by line (Patti double checked for me) When I got to "hit the "b" key, grub just said "No such command. I take it sommething was supposed to pop-up that would have given my "b" key greater meaning for us all? ":O} I did a quick restore and all is well":O} Should I re-remove : " linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic" ?

| I was looking at my Mint rig and it is holding back the kernel upgrade so I'm thinking there is a compatibility issue somewhere along the line.. Let the updates go for now until I can get an answer.

| I could have sworn it was Mint System....LOL Waiting sounds good.":O} What's more troiuble some to me is why a CD installer that installed the OS I'm using can't install it on another 320 gig drive on what is...I'm pretty sure...exactly the same system... I kinda need to be able to install it...my current 250 drive has bad sectors or so Acronis keeps telling me...

| Glad you got it to install at least. I'm really starting to get frustrated with these "user-friendly" linux distributions. Seems all they do is spend 6 months trying to figure how to break the OS between releases, then they repeat the cycle all over again. Meanwhile, every time they decide to play with the code and bump a package into the mix, your system breaks. As many problems as we have had with Fedora and now Mint, it would be a good time to move away from the "user-friendly" distros and get back to basics..

| If I can follow and do what's needed I'm game! ":O}

| Here's where I'm at now, thinking my install disk contained my error I re-downloaded another Copy (MAIN) from Mint. Burnt it and tried to install it to see if it would update...I didn't get that far...Tried to install it twice, both time it said it successfully installed, but at Boot it gives me: Grub error 2

| when it boots and gives you the menu. press the "e" key while it is on the menu there will be a section that looks like root (hd1,0) change the 1 to a 0 and hit the "b" key. if that doesn't work try changing it to 2. If this works then you simply edit the menu.lst file to boot that drive. sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

| That means it has installed grub on a different drive, might try booting from your other drives and see if you get a Mint screen..

| I only had one drive hooked up when I installed it... Yes both my Fedora and Mint 7 (original) work. I can try taking the (New Mint 7) drive off my PCI/IDE card and install straight from the IDE on the motherboard...don't know what effect if any that would have on my existing drives...

| You only had one drive attached when you installed? Do you only have one drive attached when you try to boot it?

| Yes, as a rule I only have ONE drive attached at a time...unless I happen to be working with two drives as we did when transferring files from one drive to another... Only one drive connected to install and try to boot... I'm really watching the power usage these days...":O}
