F12 uses 1.7.1 I believe.

TBH, Dsio knows more about this than I do, as what I've just regurgitated is what I got from him and I've probably mangled and misunderstood it in the process.

You can actually install the nvidia driver, its just harder than normal because you have to disable nouveau at boot time as well.

Until you have a proper driver, compiz will not function properly. I found a guide on installing nvidia drivers in F12 on fedora forums. I will start cutting out the needed items and put them here for you to copy and paste tomorrow or Saturday.

I'm waiting to see how to see how it ends as well. The fight between software freedom and user freedoms is starting to heat up. Although my money would be on the users.

It's actually a 10 second job and about 6 keystrokes, not quite as dramatic as you may have hoped.

Do you think an ordinary person such as myself could create and care for a menagerie such as the one Kaitain's linked to ?

Things did not go well after re-boot. Nvidia Ko in install ( boot list) but after everything loads and the desktop should display the list screen starts flashing after a time it gave up and nothing but a blinking cursor. Then a double wammy hit and my back up failed! DAMN just when I needed it. So I'll have to create a new Acroins back up on my back up drive, back up Mint and if I see nothing here after I re-backup Mint 7 , I'll reinstall fedora and try to install Nividia by way of yum again...

Take around 5 hours to back up mint 7and verify...so take your time...":O}

( I really don't mind reinstall fedora and nothing will be lost as I keep everything backed up to my thumb drives as far as music and files go...)

Red face

I remember the times when you guys use to say in linucs you just install a driver and it works without even rebooting. And now you have to reinstall linucs?

This came directly from fedora forums. I take no blame if it doesn't work. Copy it one line at a time.

Code:
su

rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm

yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64

sed -i '/root=UUID/s|$| rdblacklist=nouveau|' /boot/grub/grub.conf

setsebool -P allow_execstack on
