Fedora 17 looks just like Mint 12 and Fedora 16, Just got her up and running ....so no comments. If you like the "Hot conner" switch between the Apps icon page and "Windows"

(The touch screen lay out) this this might be what someone is looking for.":O}

The best Fedora feature so far, as explained above if I got it right is to switch back to Windows!!!

I just got Fedora 16 installed and running fine with my video card and games... now they have to go and ruin it by releasing Fedora 17.
I don't know why its a big deal to have GIMP 2.8 when it runs just fine in Fedora 16.
Must be an advertising scheme

really? Looks like I'm really behind on the updates...
well, if you guys remember, I'm still running Fedora 8 on my server... but thats a different story.
I finally built a new computer with modern hardware and wanted to see how Linux would perform, specially in the games arena.
Guess I should have waited for Fedora 17, but I didn't realize it was "around-the-corner"

I have no idea how Ubantu/Mint distros handle games. But I have a Fedora 17 installed and wouldn't mind following/copying you as you try to get games going.

I imagine getting Nvidia going would be first up...OMG you aren't ATI are you?":O}

Yeah, I downloaded the drivers from Nvidia and they worked perfectly.

lets see if I can recall all the steps to successfully install video drivers.
Start by downloading the Nvidia rpm for your card. I recommend changing the name to just nvidia.rpm because you will be using a shell to install it.

1. sudo yum update
2. sudo yum install kernel
3. sudo yum install selinux-policy
4. restart
5. Ctrl+Alt+F2
6. login as root
7. init 3 (kills xserver)
8. navigate to your download
9. ./nvidia.rpm
10. follow directions
12. yes to something about writing the xorg.conf file
13. restart

I did NOT have to disable nouveau drivers, apparently the Nvidia did it for me.
now you should be able to see the Gnome3 interface and start installing games. This isn't always as simple as you would expect. Some games are: .sh .bin .rpm
Each one has to be installed a different way. The easiest ones were the .rpm because you could double-click the rpm file and Fedora installs it for you.
Some games requre audio drivers like: alsa
I had to use YUM and install the alsa drivers too.
