you should be able to download an .rpm file and Mint should install it.
Those are only the files required to play it on linux but doesn't include the game files.
There are instructions on which .pak files you want to copy from the disc to the base folder in /doom3/base

I'll look up a good tutorial because I wanted to play it in Linux too.
SEE! Having a Mint 13 buddy is already starting to pay off for me...er for AOA! ":O}

Bear alway in mind as we toil.... This IS where games are coming in Linux. ubuntu IS where Steam will be porting... Mint If anything will improve upon that...going by their past successes and their experience with ubuntu and Debian. Mint has shown it can be flexible and deliver on schedule a verity of Linux destros...

Personally, I'm very encouraged. This won't deliver every game we want into our hands...but it will I think start to put real pressure on other game developers to get into the Linux market before Valve and a few others win our undying loyalty by meeting us half way.

( just a little pep talk to get us though the difficulties to come...they always come...LOL That's what makes life on Earth such an attention getter! It doesn't wait, it's always coming at you...even if all it brings is boredom...it's still coming at you! And we still have to deal with it... LOL)

Doom 3 install - Ubuntu tutorial

Step 1:

download binaries: doom3-linux-1.3.1.1304.x86.run
(right click, download file as... then save to your /home folder. if you need to change permissions on the file, you should be able to right-click it and select permissions)

Step 2:

Install with Terminal:

Code:
sudo sh /home/doom3-linux-1.3.1.1304.x86.run
Step 3:

Accept license agreement

Step 4:

Now, just follow the on-screen instructions.
(By default game will be installed in /usr/local/games/doom3/base directory)

Step 5:

The following files need to be copied from the win32 install CDs to your /usr/local/games/doom3/base directory:

pak000.pk4
pak001.pk4
pak002.pk4
pak003.pk4
pak004.pk4

Step 6:

Insert your CD/DVD and find these .pk4 files and then open another window to /usr/local/games/doom3/base
Drag-n-drop all the above .pk4 files into the base folder

Step 7:

run Doom 3 from Terminal

Code:
cd /usr/local/games/doom3
then

Code:
./doom3
Step 8:

type CD Key
configure resolution and graphics settings in doom

Step 9:

Create a shortcut to your desktop or any folder (not sure how to do this, help?)

If there are any repositories that are missing when running doom. Take a note of the errors and download them.

Mods work too. Just install them in Windows and copy the folder from base folder to the Linux base folder.

Resurrection of Evil expansion pack works too!

no, please try it. you only use the Terminal for two steps.
Its pretty easy. If some one can show me how to create a shortcut to the desktop that runs ./usr/games/doom3/doom3
We're set.
I had it running on an old Fedora 8 with an old Radeon 9600 Pro.
It was cool!

I've done the same for Quake 3...years ago...Here my problem...Doom3 depresses the hell out of me! It really does...

Fear is supposed to install through PlayonLinux, but I haven't be able to get it to work... maybe we have that in common as well?

I know what it is... dark small spaces!
in Fear its a little more open and you have places to run or get away from your enemies.
In Doom 3 you turn around to run and there's another monster!

I've never really played FEAR. I played the demo years ago and played FEARCombat with some cooperative mods, but thats it.

Doom 3 is creepy, no two ways about it. FEAR though, wigged me out in a way I haven't been bothered by since I played BF Vietnam. I never finished it. Weird that; the thing that bothered me about BF Vietnam is that it just got too close to reality in the 'feel' of the game (I think Cloasters has mentioned this as well).

FEAR, even though it was fantasy, had that same kind of 'feel'; even more so.

I kid you not, I had nightmares from that game. Very odd.

I completely agree.

Every time I saw that little girl in those quick glance scenes, I got a chill up my spine. I'm not sure I've ever played a game that was so disturbing.

I did finish it, and the sequel as well, but the sequel did not have quite the same feel.

Easily - sounds good for overclocking too. Daytime temps are around 27C/80F and night temps are more like -73C/-100F. That's why they need to provide heaters on things they send up there. If you're solar powered, you need to keep the battery warm so it doesn't freeze up and stop working!

I KNOW!! Everything you said is true! Can't wait to play it again! LOL

They both hit you in the same way...Doom3 bothered me where as FEAR, just scared the crap out of me...I can deal with being scared, but I don't like being depressed by my play time! ":O}

Odd the things one thinks one knows! All my life I've unthinkingly thought of Mars as being very hot, never even defined for myself what "very hot" was. Now I won't have to die in ignorance!

Say, Mars is Red isn't? ":O}

Yes yes all true, but once you meet her at the top of the ladder... I'm still getting over that encounter!!

When I replayed the game and knew it was coming...it was even worse! I kept telling myself... "you'll get past this, your ready this time"...but I knew I was lying!! ":O}

I can't think of another such eencounter in all of gaming, nothing else stands out for me like the CREEPY little girl at the top of the ladder....
