What would you say to Crisis 2 in Mint 13?

Steam has an offer of 4 Crisis games starting with Crisis and ending with Crisis 2...

I knew there was a good chance they wouldn't play...yet, meaning until Steam comes through with its port to Ubuntu, But I thought it worth a chance just to see Chris Bards Face...and...well you just never know now do you.

So I tumbled for the 19 bucks with tax and started downloading games at less than 50 cents a gig! 30 gigs of games for 20 dollars...LOL

C2 rejected my 8800GTS and warned me there might be crashes... stupid me I thought it was a linux bug!

But as you all probably know it's barely playable on my 8800GTS... So it probably won't get played for a while....Crisis and the other two might be just my cards peak of usability.

Everything works fine in C2,( as we Crisis players call it":O} just jerky rendering at the lowest settings, Would over-clocking my card help?

What? Did you think we were kidding Chris? LOL

I don't think that 8800 will cut it with Crysis 2 and DX11, even on low resolutions, but you could try 800x600 to see if I'm wrong.

I'm hoping Crisis will play better... What does one need to play modern games these days in terms of Nvidia and I sure don't mean top of the line! ":O}

The reason it fooled me...is my PS3, it's still new! It's still current, it sill plays the newest PS3 games at 100%... while my perfectly good PC card was dying of old age...

Yup, that's the joy of a fixed hardware platform like the PS3 - you don't need to worry about the graphics card going out of date, as there's only one graphics card to support. Developers can optimise the heck out of the code, knowing that their optimisations won't break on another graphics card.

so Crysis 2 actually ran? Thats cool.
I have run Crysis on a GeForce 7900 and played the whole game. It had at least 20-30 FPS most of the game.
So I'm sure the 8800 will run Crysis, but then again it is Linux.

right now my supercomputer is running a GeForce 550 Ti
I havn't tried any super duper state-of-the-art games like Crysis 2, Skyrim or Far Cry 3, but I will in time.
It got it for under $200 and it runs all of my game perfectly!
I refuse to pay more than $200 for a video card. So I wait until the prices drop.
Let me know if Crysis runs in Mint 13.... cause I was eventually going to try it

Here's an ugly truth you must face Chris... Some of us don't care that we are in LInux, we run Windows and games just when ever we feel like it....in LINUX. Bill Know this...he weaps himself to sleep each night...

Can't MS run Linux?

Who is this Gabe person? Does he own my software? Does he own my hardware? Then who is this Gabe person? ":O}

As I explained, the game is missing nothing beyond the rendering limits of my card. This is me waving good-bye to MS tyranny! ":O}

That is very nice to hear! I bet Crysis 2 would run great on my 550 Ti.
I'm sure you are running it through wine.
Did you install any specific DLL's?
Direct X 10? or 11?

Accessed Steam through Wine > PlayonLinux. Then just brought the thing and downloaded it. Play though Steam. What ever was done behind the scenes to make it work...was nicely hidden from me.":O}

You can get just Crisis 2 for like 10 bucks!

that is really cool. When I tried Borderlands and Magicka it wasn't that simple. Strange
They would start downloading Net Framework and/or Direct X
Then give me errors.
Since Steam is using Wine, then all the behind the scenes is still Wine doing the work.... this is great news... can't wait to try Crysis

Darn! I'm having diffiulties I didn't have last night with Crysis 2. I'm trying an install in PlayOnLinux...Yes POL has it as a listed game...I may just be screwing things up....it's early days, so I'm still very hopful.

I tried the Crysis 1 Games, no go, they say some sort of security check. I didn't load Companion or the anti cheat, now I can't, so I'm deleting crysis and trying over again... probably be all day...":O}

I know! Wine crashes. What I'm doing is using PlayOn to access my Steam Files and install them in Playon. I've done this with Half Life 2. You can play either way, but they are separate and you don't see your settings or your progress in the other Copy.

POL downloads it's own wine for each separate game as well as something call Gekco.

What I "think" is happening in Crysis one is that I didn't install the anti cheat program...didn't know it was a must, so I'm hopfull with a new install I can do better.

The other Cry 1 games may look to Cry 1 for this security...don't know!

I'll tell as I learn it! ":O}

Oh! Playon has warned me it may not work as POL is in need of an update...How to do!?

Would appreciate your assistance if you figure out how to best update POL.

I think that's our best shot all around. I'll do the the same! ":O}

unfortunately updating will probably be a terminal command or downloading the newest one from their website and that means more terminal commands.
Maybe POL has its own update option?

I'll look tomorrow because hopefully I'll have Wine re-installed and I'll try POL again.

I thought POL was cool because all the files are independent from Wine, but at the same its another layer on top of Wine and makes things more complicated to troubleshoot as you are learning....

Dan: Hey Gabe?
Gabe: Yes Dan what is it this time?
Dan: You know, your platform, got some games and I was trying to start them..
Gabe: Have you installed Windows7 as I told you yesterday?
Dan: No Gabe, I thought that if I can play older games like Half Life Mario 2 in my linucs I will also be able to play more up to date, like 4 years ago made games, like Crysis...
Gabe: Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
