Did you manage to pass the briefing in the airplane? ...before...it crashed (linux crash not the airplane)?

I thought about that too.
Using the "default" Virtual Drive and installing ALL the libraries & fonts.
Then when I create a new Virtual Drive I could just copy everything from default and add it to the new one instead of downloading it all AGAIN!

Once you download them they must become accessible to the other settings as I did it to each (I have no idea what I'm doing!":O} The first took a bit of time to downoad and install, but the repeats were all instant.

oh, you know what!!!??? I think you are right. I tried it this morning and when I tried to install Direct X 9 on a new Virtual Drive.... it was instant.
So fast that I wasn't sure if it worked.
I bet you are right. Any new Virtual Drive can copy libraries & fonts from the other Virtual Drives.
I wish there was some kind of indication of what is already installed? Say a "grayed-out" text for each installed library?

Any progress on getting POL updated? I think that's what is preventing success in Crysis or at lest a part of it... still hard to say until we try. I know I'm laying this off on you. But of the two of us, I really think you've got the better chance of getting this update and making sure it works in Mint 13. AND I think This could be a BIG one for us...

The PS3 doesn't run Linux when you're playing games on it. It used to be possible to run Linux on the PS3, but there's no GPU acceleration available in that case.

You're also forgetting that the XBox 360 is an MS product.

You're doing it wrong? How about you use a version that doesn't try to authenticate anything online?

I have now loaded Cyris and reached where the cut senes become game at that point I'm still crashing wine. However unlike in the past when it crashes it doesn't become unreachable, I get to try try again.

Crysis 2 is now a up and running quite well. but my 8800GTS is just not up to the task.

It crashes, but then Cry 2 warned at the start it didn't think my Card was up to it.

Until someone with a better card tries it, I probably won't know for sure what's crashing, card or Game under POL.

We got past that! ":O}

Here's what I've done:

Using the link for PlayOnLinux in Booman's first post in this thread I downloaded and then installed the POL upgrade. Then I reinstalled all POL options.

Cry 2 plays surprisingly well, given the card I'm trying to use. I get a crash every 10 to 15 mins. I still can't say if it's my card or the Software crashing.

But I'm hopeful, things are getting more playable. I'm going to try to download Cry 1 and just install it in POL rather than through steam, again, see if it will download for the new POL client.

For me, a crash every 10 to 15 mins would render it unplayable. By crash, do you mean the application crashes, or the whole computer locks up?

I'm having a hell of a time with Steam!
I was planning a head and tried to install all the Direct X & NET Framework libraries that games need and am getting mixed results...
Sometimes its works, sometimes it doesn't
Now Steam doesn't have any fonts!!!
I have installed Tahoma 5 times... manually and through playonlinux but still no fonts... whats the deal?

Most the time it now saves just before it crashes, Which makes me consider that the Check points may be a crash site! ":O}

Most of the time I need only re-start the game, Twice now I've had to restart my Computer. What I'm lacking is a good guide as to what NEEDS to be installed, Right now I'm just throwing everything I can find at it, and strangely it IS getting better! A lot better than when I started.

A big hold up is My card, this maybe be all because of my Card, It warns me every time I start up that my Card is NOT supported. For all I know at this point in time the Game runs great, I just don't have the hardware.

POl also wants something called a "7z" says it can't live without it, but doesn't say why they didn't provide it to me or tell me where to go to get it!?

Having to restart the computer would tend to suggest a driver problem - a crash in the graphics driver will kill the computer.

In terms of the "7z", I'm guessing it's probably 7zip, a file archiver - if that is the case, then the package you need to install is called "p7zip-full". I've no idea what package "z7" is - I haven't been able to find reference to it, and neither Debian nor Ubuntu appear to have it.

by the way, I figured out why steam had no fonts.
I was using the newest version of Wine 1.5.13
Apparently its not ready for Steam.
When you install Steam via Playonlinux it automatically installs 1.4.1 for you and that version of Wine works fine.
I was trying to install Steam manually and that is where I started having the font problem.

Also, I ran Unreal tournament 3 this morning and it installed in a few steps and ran GREAT! This is VERY good news because there are a bunch of really good (FREE) mods for UT3
