It does, then what, I couldn't get my desktop back even after re-booting?

Not sure, sounds like X Server was killed.
Usually when you Ctrl+Alt+F1 to kill a game, you can Ctrl+Alt+F8 to get back to your desktop.

I'll try that...someday if it fails I lose installed games, hence my reluctance.":O}

OH! I tried Mint 10...no go! It installed fine, even recognized my ssd. Tried twice, but I just get a blinking cursor. No boot.

yup, that is the video problem I had
when you boot up and see the Mint boot screen (Grub)
press Tab to edit the options
Then use the arrow keys to move the cursor after quiet splash and type: nomodeset

One word, then continue. You should be able to get it to the desktop, but after that, you will need to install video drivers.
Until you install them, you have to type "nomodeset" every single time you boot up... or permanently set it in the grub.cfg
But then you have to undo it when the video drivers are installed

Once I tried it, I never saw the Mint logo again... just a blank screen and blinking cursor..

BTW the instructions I received from you about ripping data files in GRAW and B-2...they can be used to install native Linux games ...yes?

Been years since I did that, but I seem to recall a similarity at least?

Probably not because I don't know of any native Linux games on CD-ROM
All Linux games are for download.
What were you thinking about?

Doom and Quake series are Native Linux. But you have to rip the disks of data files (Cab files just popped into my mind) and go though Linux type stuff in terminal to install them, ripping the disks is about all I clearly remember, diso took me though it years ago.

oh, good call!
Technically they are Winblows version and IdSoftware made some native Linux binaries for us Linux users.
Yes, it should work the same way.
When I installed Quake Wars the Linux binaries asked me for the DVD and installed it for me.
But if you want to copy the data files to a folder that should work out too.
Their data files are called .pak

Yes GR is a very good one!

Unfortunately I'm just not into controlling AI's and telling them what to do, but a very nicely made game.

GRAW is more of a simulation. Its slower than the rest of the FPS, but is almost a genre of its own...
You have to really scope out every corner as you move around.

Not really... Origin took some hacking work to get it running.
Then I don't have 20 Gigs of free space on my Mint 13 partition to install the game.
Not to mention I don't know how to install from the DVD.
There is no option in Origin to install from Optical media
