Red mold in Crysis 2, 64 bit

I've had a persistent and reacuring problem with Crysis 2, beyound merely not being able to get her to run without crashing that is.

For some reason out of no where my game will grow a red mold (see Pictures) I haven't had a clue as to why...until now. It's still just a hunch, but it's my only lead. I think it may be caused by changing wines in the virtual drive.

I've run Cry 2 on the installed 1.3.27 wine and on the newest 1.5.18 wine, both do a pretty good job relative to other wines. I had a new Cry 2 install running well on wine 1.3.27, but limiting the quality of the games appearance as it sees my card as being a 8300 Gs.

So I switched to the 1.5.18 wine and on came the red mold. I tried to UN-install wine but it didn't work. POL warns that deleting the v-drive is the only way to get a clean removeal.

So it remain just a guess for the time being.

Oh Boo here are those pics you asked for...you lucky dog you! LOL

I finally tumbled to the cause of the Red mold terror!!

It wasn't wine at all! It was an Nvidia card setting, not sure which one yet as I turned them all off to test the theory and Red Mold is now my bitch!

(Excuse the language, but after 15 re-installs I think I'm entitled! ":O}

When Crysis 2 goes moldy, my whole world rots with decay and the stench is unbearable.

(Ok I forgot to check on the bread, but I was in quite a state, Who knows how this will effect my pot stash!

(To be honest Danrok...I'm just glad everyone else sees the red mold to!!)

This would be the first thing I'd see, waiting, hoping a Grey blue sub would appear. This next one, is more of what the game looks like when Red mold has been taught it's place! ":O}

Now try turning on the Nvidia features one at a time and run the game.
It may have something to do with Anti-Aliasing or Ambient Occlusion.

My thought exactly did the work yesterday and didn't get back here with the results. Easy really, here's what you can do without red mold (see pic.)

Anisotropic is poison to Crysis 2.

yup, that is what I thought.
You may want to post your results on the WineHQ page.

Isn't it strange how certain games won't run well with special settings?
Shadows on high, AAx2, Anisotrophic, etc?

I've had pretty good luck using my settings, why it took me a while to suspect my card settings, I just didn't think of it! ":O}

I wouldn't think of that either because Nvidia should be set for "Application" instead of over-riding control.

This seems to be the frustrating element with Linux. You have so many places to configure how games and programs run or display.
How do we keep track of them all?
