As far as Linksys and Netgear go, I've had enough bad experiences with Netgear stuff. Linksys isn't so well established in the UK, so I can't comment on them really.

Thanks AidanII. I'm glad I gave up. Since I managed to get everything else set up without the router, I was more than a little frustrated that the VPN was the last holdout. I have to admit, I don't think I could have gotten that last part. For the cost and the performance, I have no regrets, and this time a 5 year warrantee, so I don't have to replace it every 2 years. After 5, who know what we'll be using.

Netgear has an interesting reputation. This seems to boil down to: If it works, yaay! If it doesn't, don't be all that surprised.

A K7S5A I had refused to run a Netgear NIC, a FA-313, if I remember the model right. The mobo refused to boot with that NIC.
Yet a pal's boxes love all things Netgear. Hubs are a bit passe, I'll probably buy a switch if my Linksys 5-Port dies. It won't be made by Linksys!
