the sattelite dish comes with 250 ms of built in lag. not good for gaming, and cable is riddled with hackers. so many that it often is brought to its knees with probe bots and trojans :P DSL is nice, but the most expensive/least permanent hookup

My cable averaged 4mbit connection+, and tops out around 9. I have super low ping time, and the only disadvantage is a 128k upload cap..

Depending upon what AT&T will charge you after the six month period, and if you're stuck with a contract with them that goes beyond the six months(can't imagine that you won't be) it looks like the best deal, atm. In my AO, AT&T cable ISP service is $50 per month. The last time I checked, anyroad.

Before the latest bit of corporate greed-fest, Qwest DSL was $30 per month, for always-on 640 kbps down, 340 kbps up. Looks like it isn't anymore! And the REAL bandwidth never exceeded 412 kbps, for me at any rate.

As a rule, cable ISP connections are faster than DSL ISP's. The robber baron lying, thieving little cable ISP that has the monopoly in my AO gave me 1.6 Mbps, at 500% above the promised fee. I told them to take their modem and get outta my life, natch.

Satellite is usually used as a last resort. It's cheaper than formerly, but absolutely no good for online gaming. It's a last resort because it's S L O W.
