Question Roadrunner & wireless

Have had Roadrunner Cable service for a year on my desktop and love it. Can now access work's network on my laptop via LPN, but it's a hassle to switch the RR between the two machines (IPConfig never seems to pick up the new address on the XP running desktop). So I'm looking seriously at a wireless network.

A few questions for anyone who's more experienced (which means everyone) than I am:
- Are there wireless routers which also have a wired port so I can wire the connection to the desktop (better speed) and have a wireless connection to the laptop?
- How much of a performance difference will I see on the desktop (if any)?
- How much of a performance difference will I see on the laptop - between the advertised 5.5 Gig cards and the 2.5 (or is it 2.2)?
- For anyone who's done this, is the trade off in convenience not worth it for wireless?

Thanks much for your help!!

I have tried wireless about 4 years ago. Haven't done it lately.

Yes there are routers that have both wireless and fast ethernet ports. From what I have heard the Linksys wireless acess point with 4 port fast ethernet switch is one of the best (but again, no personal experiance)

Souldn't see any diference in performance in the desktop. The Laptop will have a performance drop but unless you are working with very large files you probibly won't even notice. (and even then I am comparing Fast ethernet speeds to wireless speeds, don't know if you will get a performance hit on the internet conection)
