DNS servers

How long do dns servers take to update? I set the web forwarding on my new domain name over a day ago and still it says page can not be found. I have made sure the url it is set to is working.
Infact if what I know about dns servers is correct they update at different times. So could people from around the world try
http://www.stolemyshoes.co.uk

I assure there is nothing offensive or in any way nude on that site.

How long it takes for DNS servers to time out old entries (IE, change entries) depends on the cache time set in the zone file on the authorative DNS servers!

Currently ns.pickawebhosting28.net and ns2.pickawebhosting28.net are serving the stolemyshoes.co.uk domain. However, querying them for any results returns a failure.

So, your registrar has the details correct (assuming that pickawebhosting28.net are the people who are running your DNS), but the DNS servers don't appear to know anything about your zone! You should query those people who are running the DNS servers on your behalf.

A new zone (like yours!) should become active upon the next reload of the DNS server. This is because there are no old entries to time out!

They state four days. If it's not there after four days, then you should definately have words with them.

Well I contacted them and apparently unless I use their web hosting service (which I dont) I have to change the dns servers to
d.dnsvr.com
g.dnsvr.com
which I have done. So we shall see in 48 hours whether or not it works.
I think this stinks though, surely they would know I wasnt using their web hosting service and would set them automatically.

Lovely stuff.

Well, I can confirm that the two DNS servers they provided you with do indeed know about your domain. Unfortunately, those changes have not yet been propagated to the outside world!

well I set my secondary dns server to one of the ones they gave me and the site worked, but now I need to clear my dns cache because even though I removed the secondary server it still works, but my friend who uses the same isp as me says the site still doesnt work so I assume its not working properly yet.
