Netgear RP114 4 port cable router ..

Hi there, anyone else using this router ? I seem to be having a few problems with it on my home network ..

1) I cant loopback to my WAN address (i.e i cant access my ip/dns to access my webserver, only via 192.168.0.4 [being my servers address]) and was wondering if there was anything I could change in the settings to help me there (I have looked and tweaked, but to no avail)

and 2) I can only route 10 ip/port ranges, but with 4/5 PC's on my network, it's totally full now, with only a few PC's having access to certain things .. and with the inability to route port ranges to multiple IP's i'm getting a bit stuck

Any help would be much appreciated

Welcome to AOA, makaio!

Are you using 5 PC's on this router? I'm confused. (Like that's new!)

Thanks

Not all of the PC's are linked up at the same, but they all need ports routed .. (three pc's, a server and a laptop)

I was wondering if there would be a way to

1) Loopback to the WAN address of the server

2) increase the number of port ranges i can route ...

Cheers

Just a thought. Mebbe constantly changing which machines are on your LAN is confusing the router? Maybe.

On the subject of port forwarding....

Using NAT with a single IP address, it's not possible to route the same ports to multiple PCs. That port number/range is how the NAT device knows which host to send the packet to! This only applies to inbound connections from the outside world. Outbound connections should not be affected by port forwarding.

You might want to give us some more background information!

On the subject of 1), the manual says

Quote:
Local PCs must access the local server using the PCs’ local LAN address (192.168.0.33 in this example). Attempts by local PCs to access the server using the external IP address (172.16.1.23 in this example) will fail.
IE, the device just can't do it.

Ah, thanks for the reply's guys ...

Haven't been on here in a while (not had any notification of your posts ;( .. )

Cheers again Áedán and cloasters!

If you can find an netgear rt 314 you can do about anything with it. There are hacked firmware that enables over a hundred port forwards and all kinds of fun stuff.

Cheers Jazz!

Looks like a nice router, but still only has the 4 ports, and i have 5 (6 sometimes) PC's that use the internet ...

Might consider that and a hub to expand the ports.

Cheers again
