3.09 Mbps throughput on a Nokia.

3.09 Mbps peak data throughput on a Nokia phone chipset. Pretty impressive. That's better than my cable internet service. Not only is it faster than my cable modem, you can carry it around with you in your pocket. Stick Bluetooth on the phone and your laptop and you're surfing high speed completely wirelessly. Pretty impressive stuff on the horizon.

Press Release.

Except that you'll only get 700Kbit/sec over bluetooth!

Shame that us consumers aren't likely to see that speed though.

More than a few cell/mobile phone owners would love to see a 3+ Mbps connection to the Web! A pal gets s l o w and s l o w e r data transfer when he crawls the Web with his yacketty box.

Maybe by the time the 3Mbps wireless service is available, they'll have 3Mbps Bluetooth 2.0.

Nah, we need to look to the future, so we'll need at least 10Mbit/sec. Alas, WiFi is already at 11MBit/sec but takes substantially more power than Bluetooth.

3Mbit/sec is plenty enough to stream full screen digital TV with an AC3 stream, and have 1Mbit/sec left over for internet connectivity. Maybe that's what it's aimed at?

Bluetooth though, isn't designed for the kinds of distances WiFi is. I would think a 10Mbps Bluetooth implementation would use substantially less power than WiFi.
