Talking I need control of what I give !

Hello folks,

I just switched from dial up to cable modem and the cable modem is connected using the USB port. I am using my net card to connect to 2 other computers (using a switch) and I gave them internet. Is there any program for XP prof. I can use on my comp. and can limit what they are receiving?

Thank's in advance !

Chris

When you say limit what they receive do you mean...
Something to limit what access they have to the internet
or
Something to limit how fast the internet sends things to them, so they don't chew up all the bandwidth?

Hello Aedan,

What I ment was: Something to limit how fast the internet sends things to them, so they don't chew up all the bandwidth?

I'm not aware of any free programs to do so. Windows XP's Internet Connection Sharing doesn't really have any concept of bandwidth limiting, so it can't do it on it's own.

Some products that appear to be able to do what you're after are below:
Bandwidth Controller
HomeQOS
NetLimiter

Alternatively, I know that Linux can handle bandwidth limiting, if you felt that would be a solution.

Linux as a gateway machine that all of the computers connect to would be nice. Then you also have the added security of Linux as a firewall and you can rig it as a file server. Don't forget it is ready for those Counterstrike LAN games with a dedicated server already in place. That gives me an idea...

Ok, guys, since I will not play Counterstrike and I will not add a second pc as a linux gateway I'll use one of the above programs.
Thank you guys.
