barebone notebook help please

well i just put together a barebones "asus M3N" series notebook.
i had to buy the harddrive, the memory and the cpu.

harddrive is toshiba

cpu pentium m 1.6 ghz

i installed everything, then tried powering up....it just stay on for about 3 seconds then shuts off.
am i doing something wrong? do i need to make it charge for a few hours first since, it's never been charged before?

PS. i have the ac adapter plugged in...when i try powering it on.
PS. again, no OS or such, remember it's barebones.

Most laptops will run happily without the battery. That would allow you to see if it's a problem with the machine, or an issue with the battery.

how much was the total cost?

actually the cpu wasn't locked in properlly, but seeing as how it's a totally different locking system from a desktop....i had missed it when installing the cpu.

PS. it cost me $1050 total.....and it's running beautiful.

i saved $1000 by putting it together myself....notebooks that i've seen with the same specs that i have all cost upwards of $2000 and i was really not looking to spend anywhere near so much on a notebook
