Need some advise with wireless networking..

Ok, how and what do I need to connect a PC to a cable NTL set-top box that will have broadband shortly?
NTL usually cable the box straight to the PC but I dont want NTL drilling and running any cables through the house.
I've had a look at some components but I'm not sure what I need exactly.
Do I simply need a Wireless Access point or a Wireless Cable router, wireless broadband router (are these the same?) at the STB and a wireless card in the PC?
Bah its sooo confusing at this time of night!
Thanks.

It depends how many IP addresses NTL will give you.
A Wireless access point is good if you already have a device to do internet sharing.
If you don't have anything to do interenet sharing, then you need either a wireless cable router, or wireless broadband router. Technically they've both the same thing, in that they have an ethernet port on one side for the cable modem, and wireless/switch ports on the other side for your computers.

Yes, you'll need a wireless card for each of your computers.

even if he can get multiple IP's I'd still suggest an NATwirless router , they are like $30 now

Oops sorry, that price is for ADSL Modem routers! A wireless broadband router is about £35-40. Still alot compared to US prices.

Hi Lazgoat,

I am also attempting to link up an NTL cable set top box to be able to wireless link several computers in my home to the internet via NTL broadband.

Can I ask you a few questions about the results?

What setup did you end up going for in terms of harware?

How easy was it to set up?

Are you happy with the resulting speed?

Thanks in advance for any sharing of hard won knowledge.

Cheers.
