Talking Camera phones recognise their owner

Software that lets a camera phone recognise its owner's face could provide a handy new security measure, according to a Japanese company. "

It isnt going to work. No matter how much effort engineers put into security / theft prevention, the criminal mind is far too flexible and clever. We live in a day of copy protection and yet see how much pirated software and literature is around.
Its like anti porno programs too.

Dilbert: "YES! Ive finally created a program that will prevent yound boys from viewing smut and vulgarity on the internet, im going to be RICH!"
Dogbert: "So you intend to pit your intelligence against the collective sex drive of every teenage boy in the world?"
Dilbert: "......."
Dogbert: "You know, if you put a little hat on a snowball, it can last a long time in hell"
-scott adams

Phones will get stolen no matter how much you try to stop it. Even if they are stolen only to be later discarded as useless junk. The trick is to stop using copy protections, theft preventions and other things that make people's lives a misery, and just make people look after their own gear.

It would be a good way of unlocking your phone rather than using a pin, as long as it can't be tricked by a video or still

Phones and cars are stolen all day long in the UK. Even cars with the best in security, including satelite tracking are easily stolen by professionals.

We know that most stolen cars are smuggled abroad to Africa where they can be easily sold on. I would imagine many phones are also shipped overseas where all locking can be bypassed without much bother or worry of prosecution.
