| The fix for the Cisco 600 series routers is posted, but as you probably don't have TAC access, you'll need to phone them to get the upgrade. Basically, you need a new version of CBOS (the OS). Call Cisco on +1 800 553 2447 (toll free) and request a CBOS upgrade for your 675. Explain that it is a free upgrade, and give them the following URL as evidence of your entitlement for a free upgrade Code: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/707/cisco-cbos-webserver-pub.shtml Presumably they will email it to you - I don't know as I've never used this route! Once you have the CBOS image, you'll need to follow the instructions on http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/794/600swinstl.shtml. You'll already have the CBOS image, so you don't need to download it. However, to do the update you'll need a management cable! If you don't already have a management cable, then you'll need to make one. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/794/600pinout.html contains the details of how to make the cable - it's pretty easy, only needing 3 wires. Hope this helps! Áedán

| Jimbo, The cables the 600 series use are NOT the same as the rest of the Cisco family! ): As long as the cables you have are for the 600 series, it'll be fine. The standard Cisco rollover/DB9 adapter cable does not work. Áedán

| You can also dump the new CBOS on the router without the managment if you get the new Commander software... I think it was 2.4.3 CBOS came as an executable for the code red fix.... It is the first Commander software I've found worth using.. oh, and you can get the whole package CBOS & Commander on CD-ROM from qwest.net (as a freebie)... Good luck... |

| AFAIK, the Cisco 67x series don't become infected with Code Red. It just knocks 'em off line until you: A. Disconnect the power cord from the router. Shut down your box. Power it up after waiting 15 seconds. After your machine has completed booting into Win, reconnect the power to the Cisco. Wait for it to retrain itself. That's it. B. Updating the CBOS to v. 2.4.1 was supposed to fix the Code Red problem. It didn't. It's possible that the v. 2.4.3 update won't work, either. After I learned that Qwest was slamming all of its DSL customers to MSN DSL, I got a new DSL ISP. The tech folks at my new ISP are savvy. One of them told me to NOT install the CBOS 2.4.3 update, nor the Commander software. Even though Telnetting into your Cisco via Hyperlink is scary, I don't think that the tech was steering me wrong. Unfortunately, the Cisco 675 is now nearly obsolete. Spyder462, don't throw it away! But don't be surprised if a DSL ISP requires a Cisco 678(the last number ("8," in this case) is specific to the Telco that you'll need to use to "bridge" you to your ISP, or use if the Telco is your DSL ISP. It could be worse. Two weeks after I paid off the(now useless) $150 Cisco 675, I'm paying $95 for a Cisco 678. Comin' and goin'. Think that it could possibly be a racket?

| Damn... that would really tick me off... I JUST purchased this 675 (my third)... I gotta know Closters, PM me or email the info for the ISP... PLEASE... even if i get shafted for a new router, it sounds better than MSN in november... YUCK!!! Kris |

| Well, Qwest said it was fine- anyways- im sellin it- im getting att cable modem w/ a private node! |

| Spyder462, If I may make a suggestion, please. I made the mistake of severing my DSL connection to Qwest before ascertaining that the cable ISP I hooked up to actually worked. My neighborhood is served by a small-time cable outfit that has the local monopoly. Their cable ISP service did NOT work with my gear. The upshot was that I had to make a brand new connection to Qwest before I could hook up with ANY DSL ISP. This cost $164. The Stupidity Tax is painful once in a while.
