bit torrent and edonkey too slow?

I have 512kbps ADSL connection, but edonkey and bittorrent run at 3kbps!!
A little help? The ISP uses a proxy.

Do you allow other machines to connect back to your machine for Bittorrent? If you don't allow other machines to connect to you, then they restrict your speed.

It's always possible that your ISP uses traffic shaping to limit the bandwidth to P2P programs. This slows P2P connections down and stops them from clogging up their network.

I've tried using eMule and edonkey. I could never get past getting a "lowid"(really slow downloads) My guess was my ISP(Comcast) has it blocked or somehting
