phones/modems/conection speed??

unplugged my phone and caller id the other day and to my surprise my dial up connection speed jumped from 38.6 to a whopping 49.0 plugged and unplugged several time to test and each time my pc would connect at a higher speed with the phone unplugged....go figure two years at 38.6

Wow! This is very important news, gotta remember this one! Glad that your connection speed improved so dramatically. Every single kb matters. Thanks, kat!

Yea thats common those devices can inject noise into the line. Also the whole factor of less voltage getting to the modem because of the mechanical split with the caller id and all. I believe that most of the newer caller id's get their power off the line and use the batteries to keep the memory. Thats why when i had dial-up long ago i had a modem only line.

We dont really have that problem here they decided to get a real connection and the nodes are so small you cannot see a differnce when it is at peak times and when it is in the middle of the night.
Light mulitplexing is a wonderful thing.

Alas, most of the world's surface has no available BB connection. Except satellite, which is often not worth the expense, and may well not be available in the needed latitude.

Why does ISDN cost so dang much? It's very expensive for the little bandwidth it offers.

Same here. Maybe 500-1000 homes or so in my whole area. My speed is always at 250kilobytes/sec DL and 45kilobtyes/sec UL.

Cloasters its becasue the telco's still think isdn is a high speed connection. In the days before cable and dsl, isdn was the only choice if you wanted more than 56k and coulding afford a t-1. They still think it is gold.
