Great news. Go to the trouble of not having a cell, you're rewarded with similar radiation concerns from a laptop. Oh well, it's farther from yer noggin.

I personally suspect that it is much ado about nothing, but the good Doctor has a point; we should at least be consistent about these things.

The number of illness reported from "undetermained cause or causes" steadly rises year by year. Some of our stuff must be harming at lest some of us...but which stuff and why?

I am cautious of some of this, but on the basis that WiFi produces a far smaller RF field than a cellphone does.

With a GPRS cellphone, the phone can be transmitting a 2W field with a duty cycle of 50% (that means that the transmitter is only on 50% of the time). With a standard laptop WiFi card, it can be transmitting a 0.05W field with a duty cycle of 50%. (There are higher power cards available, but they're generally more expensive and specialist.)

That's a lot less power. If there are issues with this relatively low level of RF power, then the ramifications of this are actually pretty huge - Think radio and TV stations, satellite communications, and microwave ovens just for starters.

The increase in Autism in the US is epidemic and we still haven't a clue as to why. But many are starting to point to the sources Aidan mentioned, "mainly radio and TV stations, satellite communications, and microwave ovens just for starters."

One question that might be worth asking is how well does that correlate with TV/Radio? AM, FM and TV transmissions have been around for 65 years in the western world.

It isn't just the US - the increase in autism appears across the world.

I know that people are trying to make such correlations, but I haven't heard that any have been successful yet in proving anything. Your post has made me wonder, does anyone know if Autism is seeing the same increase in 3rd world countries?

If it's electronic in origin one would expect to see 3rd world areas free or greatly less effected...yes?

I'm no expert, but I would expect that there would be a great deal of difficulty correlating things between first- and third-world countries (howcome they are all first- or third-world, btw, why aren't there any second-world countries?) because, first off, medical care in itself is going to be lacking. It would seem to me to be very difficult to make correlations by virtue of the fact that there would be a great many things that people would be suffering from that they would never seek or get treatment for.

Good point, the difficulties are great, but considering what's becoming increasingly at stake, perhaps we'd better develop the perspective we need to see what is after our kids...

Just when ever we can find the time...sigh

Darwin would argue that we shouldn't.

China appears to have seen great increases in some areas. However stats from China may be more difficult to intepret.

Bees. Bees are vanishing all over the USA. They do 98% of our pollination.

People are looking into cell phones as the cause. All attempts to replace bees as our major pollinators have been miserable failures at best. Need I add that without bees or a viable substitute our agriculture will be in real big trouble.

So, who thinks the average guy will give up his cell phone to save the planet...should that become necessary?

It depends on how average is the average fellow. High average might give up the yack unit. Let's get un-PC, what about the average woman?

Here's the thing, no body rushed to say "I will!"

So how good a planet can it be? Maybe we've given way to much credence to that 'ol saw about it being the only one we have.

Exclusivity is a good thing to have, but ya can't expect everyone to fall on their faces in abject subservience every time the planet is threated...or can you?

It's not the average guy Daniel. Will AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and all other providers shut it down to save the planet. No!!!! The government will mearly put on a surcharge a large one at that. To help curb the problem of cell phone usage. Like a sin tax. The usage will go on and the government will bring in more money and people will be pissed about the surcharges and taxes and the plight of the bees will be completely lost in the whole debate. strange when you think about it cuz the bee's plight is our plight. It's the same as hollering to save the planet. The planet will be fine, we will all be dead.
