ATI and Nvidia Says "No Support for Vista"

Techware Labs give us the low-down on the situation with Vista and mobile graphics:

Microsoft Windows Vista has been out now for more than 6 months. At first ATI was praised for supporting Vista and Nvidia was criticized for not supporting their products. Quietly however ATI and Nvidia has not been providing drivers for mobility/Go customers. I can hear you saying "You're Kidding Right" nope but I wish I was.

This is a good place to get modified drivers for laptops:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?

I've uploaded a few to AOA Files in the past, but it gets a bit complicated given that I don't have a bunch of laptops to test them on first.

Crikey, AMD's head is up and locked. WTH is the matter with them? They are earning a long list of enemies by doing this. I'm very glad that we found out that a laptop with up to date ATi Vidcards can't run Vista. "AMD Inside" needs all the friends it can get!

I honestly don't blame them.
Having tested a configured SMS server (MS software management server aka silly microsoft stuff, and worse), when vista doesn't trust the installer for office 07, and blocks it, as well as not allowing non whql drivers to be installed - regardless of your access (unless you do time consuming workarounds), I wouldn't bother with it, and hope it dies - btw SMS worked 100% in XP except for the stupid 250MB default cache size which had to be increased for every machine vista and xp.
As far as I can see, from an workplace perspective, vista is dead, it is the silver bullet that will tumble the werebeast.

If MS can't even get their own software to work on vista, how can you expect a company that is given no details about how to about programming for vista, and could be sued for using proprietary, copyrighted code?

as for vista and dx10?

I can see some hacks soon - w2k and dx10 anyone? Don't let that hardware be consumed by your OS!

My laptop has a GO 7600GT in it with 256mb of dedicated RAM, drivers for it are fine. Just use the desktop drivers to suit. No problems....

maybe vista will turn out to be as good as Windows Me. Only for laptops.

Though from my perspective, its actually worse, as I don't use laptops.

I noticed that there doesn't seem to be a "Server edition" as there was for 2000 pro?

I think these are what you are looking for:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...r/default.mspx
and
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro..._id=10115WPHb1

though again maybe not - when compared to w2k server
