news analysis: The honeymoon might already be over between Apple and AT&T.

The two partners stood in stark contrast Wednesday evening following the results of Apple's third-quarter earnings, in which the company revealed it sold 270,000 iPhones in the first 30 hours the product was on sale. Earlier in the week, AT&T said it had activated only 146,000 iPhones during a similar period of time.... Front Page

From what I've read, it is entirely likely that both sets of numbers are correct; apparently AT&T was having issues getting the iPhones activated because of glitches in their system. Either way, the numbers are below the expectations of many analysts, or so I've heard.

The mismatch is probably a combination of things, activation problems, people buying them to sell on, for gifts, etc.

I'm surprised the figure isn't higher. After all the fuss, I'd have exepcted them to sell closer to 1 million on day one. Was mainly hype afterall.
