iPhone update kills unlocked iPhones

It seems that Apple's comments about unlocked iPhones stopping working after the latest update might actually be true - Read the FrontPage for more info.

Have you been affected by an iPhone that's died because of the update?

Yup, they're optional. I suppose things that would worry me is that some of the people who came up with hacks have made comments along the lines of "well, we're doing this stuff with the basebase processor, but we don't understand why this other stuff (IMEI) got changed too."

If they've been screwing around with the baseband code, then I lose a lot of sympathy. The baseband code controls all of the RF on the phone - screwing that up can take out cells, and tends to get the regulators annoyed.

Whoa! $600.00 bucks is a lot to lose on a unlock and and update!
I hope folks go slow on this and make sure of who is "helping" you.
