Asus Eee PC

Hey, I'm not real sure if this is the right section for this.... But I'm looking for a small, light replacement for my current HP 15.4" Laptop. I finally got my new Desktop running so I no longer have the need for any decently sized screen on a laptop. I was looking at the ASUS Eee PC and was curious if anyone on here has any experience with it yet.

I am thinking it would be a great choice for carrying around college campus, and it also looks like you can load XP on it, or hopefully a different version of linux from the one that comes built-in that looks too "User-friendly" I mostly will be using this for taking notes, surfing the web, and designing web pages (Normally use dreamweaver for this)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I have been looking at it also, but I think that it is unfortunately just too underpowered for my uses, since my college work is also coding and debugging and whatnot, as well as the usual assignment writing.

I think it does make sense if you are just going to take notes with it, although the screen is quite small. I'm not sure how much of a performance hog dreamweaver is though.

I think it might actually be worth spending the little extra and getting a "fuly fledged" laptop, if you can live with the size penalty you do get a lot more performance and storage for your cash. However, if you want a cheap ultra portable then the Eee should be the machine for you

Just a follow up.....

I got the Eee for christmas, and I am loving it. It is incredibly light and really isnt that bad to type on especially if it is on a hard surface like a desk or table. the slow speeds are not noticeable since you really wouldnt do any cpu intensive things on this small of a system.

I'm going to upgrade the memory, simply because I installed XP and want to stop usage of a paging file. And with the SD Card slot there is definetly enough storage.

I would not use this as my main pc, but as something to easily carry it is amazing
