converting an wireless adsl to wireless cable

simple question

can it be done

i have a d-link g604t adsl wireless router,

but i now have virgin cable internet

it suposed to take the internet in throught the adsl port then out of either wireless or the ethernet ports,

is there a way to put the ethernet line from the cable modem, (which is a generic thing from virgin with no code on it) into the adsl port through some kinda converter, or is this ridiculus and i need a cable router

joe

I believe you can use some (if not all wireless routers) as wireless access points, so in theory at least, it can be done!

The problem with the router you have is that the WAN port is the ADSL port. For the router to work as intended, you'd really need an ethernet WAN port. As far as I know, there's no easy way to convert ethernet to ADSL to look like it's coming from an exchange. It may be easier to pick up a wireless ethernet router instead.

How many IP addresses will Virgin give you? If they give you more than one, you may be able to use the existing router as just an access point. This would require you to turn off most of the features of the router, including firewalling.

Step 1 Ebay your Adsl router
Step 2 take cash and convert it into

eWiz.com Linksys WRT54G2 4-Port Wireless-G Broadband Router

Fin

or add a second NIC to your pc and use one nic for the cable net and ICS the second one and share the net that way???? Making your access point a switch/hub
