I was planning on buying an iPod Touch this coming week.

I may just hang on and grab this one. Any news on whether they'll be released as PAYG at all here?

Internet tethering is where you use the phone to provide Internet connectivity to another device, such as a laptop. That's not offered for PAYG customers - it's a contract only feature. It's also a feature that's enforced by the network, not by the phone.

Ooh, pricey.

Internet tethering is not a problem, my HTC Touch Diamond does that just fine. =)

My HTC Touch Diamond does pretty much everything the iPhone does, but there's certain apps on the iPod Touch/iPhone that I just HAVE to play around with.

They are practically giving them away...gag...Oh wait, free phones...that's someone else!

They just seem WAY over priced...but what do I know! LOL

I just headed to Comet to pick up a 50" Plasma courtesy of a warranty payout and felt compelled to purchase an iPod Touch. So I did just that.

Let's hope I don't regret this purchase.

I could buy a wife for £440.40 and she would be pay-as-you-go AND fully tetherable to the kitchen.

I think picking up a wife on a monthly contract would give you a better bang-per-buck.

iPhones enabled as broadband dongle for free by "simple" hack

Owners of the new iPhone 3GS handset and the iPhone 3G can circumvent extra monthly charges for using the handsets as a broadband "dongle" using a simple technical workaround, the Guardian has established.

The discovery could cause problems for O2, which has the monopoly on iPhone sales in the UK, and which has reported high interest in the new 3GS, which went on sale this morning.

Continues...

It hurts it does... that this is a /really/ cool toy.

While at the same time, the apple app store is a stupidly restrictive and unfair system for both consumers and authors, and being forced into excessive contracts without the option to buy outright (at least here in AU, not sure if you've got the same problem in the USA).

Then there's the DRM, and being forced to use iTuned or put up with alternatives that are lacking in features.

On the other hand, the G1 phone isn't quite as sexy, but definitely more palatable. Just need an improved G1 android phone perhaps.

Would be fairly easy to tell who's been using it for tethering anyhow - something about much larger transfers of data?
