I got this old phone but is ok for a couple of things I need to do. I tried to update its software using Nokia Software Updater and I get a message saying that "NoKia detected a configuration error." Any ideea's?

I don't know but if it's a config error wouldn't that mean it can be re configured?

Yeah, the 9500 is from 2004, and predates Nokia's online update service.
Unfortunately, it's a send the phone to a service centre to get it updated. That said, there may be some mobile phone shops that can provide an update service for it.
