Interesting idea - it's a shame that the reason it's hard to hear in a noisy environment isn't just because it's noisy, but because your brain uses the sounds from both ears to help to filter out unwanted sounds. Thus, if you're only hearing with one ear, your brain has a harder time understanding!

So, wearing earphones makes for better communication.

If the vibration were strong enough, presumably it would become a make-shift bone conduction set, using the jawbone as the pickup?

I think noisy environments are often dangerous, as well, e.g. a busy street.

Not such a good idea cross the road while talking on the phone.

Or a tooth...I'd have a tooth jack installed!

Then when I told someone I'd have chew something over....I'd know what I was talking about now wouldn't I?

"iPod Oblivion", according to the HSE bod at work. It's a pet peeve of his, along with coffee cups without lids and hand rails not being held on stairs. The fastest way to get fired here is to walk down the stairs (down being riskier than up) carrying an open cup of coffee, listening to music without holding on.

I suppose having one ear free gives you half a chance of hearing the bus before it flattens you, versus no chance when wearing a decent set of headphones.

Moral of the story is that when listening to coffee always hold on to your lid.

I fear that England's educational standard is not what it might once have been, and that anything sold as the Masticator would quickly be rebadged the iW..k!

It does kill be people for sure.

All that pacing up and down while on the phone, is a good one, people tend to walk straight in to heavy moving machinery or over unguarded edges.
