Chris,
That Java error looks to be a problem with the touch controls.
It could be the game or the build of Android causing the problem.
Try installing a simple game that works on the HTC desire - I know Bubble blast II works, having a HTC desire and playing it - https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...e.BubbleBlast2

If it is a problem with touch in Android it should error with that as well.

A memory issue should also show up when viewing 720p video with FLAC or WAV audio

A view of the running apps should show you how much RAM you have free, check against the requirements of the game to see if the desire can handle it.

Cheers man, i saw the error message and realised it has to do with with either sense not working properly or other touch error but I was thinking someone with more knowledge will tell me where the error lies, thanks again, will check and report back. Hows life in Australia treating ya?

Pretty good, looking for a job at the moment. Have a couple of interviews lined up.

Let us know how jelly bean works out - I have the same phone sitting here doing nothing.

So I've installed all the apps I needed (previously not a chance due to low memory) like

yahoo messenger
yahoo mail
fb messenger
fb
skype
google voice search
google play music
british radio
engadget
online tv
etc

and I can play just fine a lot of games like

Agent Dash, Bad piggies, Clouds and Sheep, Aporkalipse, Hawx (really big game), Cut the rope (previously wouldn't even start due to low memory), Marble Blast, Mass Effect Infiltrator (another big game) but

Dungeon Hunter, Assassins Creed, Splinter Cell would play with no lag and would crash after a few minutes with the same error you saw above. Nova and some other similar game would also play with no lag but wouldn't work properly, the "joystick" would stop working while the direction (free look) would work and the fire "button" would get stuck and fire continuously. If doing certain sudden moves on this dualtouch it would come back to normal for a while then go beserk again. Usually I have about 98MB-146MB free memory, internal storage now is at 789MB free and USB storage is at 2,79GB free. I use Antutu CPU Master and I use the ondemand setting with the CPU all the way up to 1113Mhz when needed. All the apps work great and I have no problems with most games but few of them simply crash with that error. Will install bubble blast 2 and give it a go in a second.

Ah, are all those games not working Gameloft games, and all non Gameloft games working?

There seems to be an issue around several Gameloft games and Android 4.0 and above.

Yeah most GAMELOFT games don't run. But Danrok tested Assassins Creed on his device(Android 4 I think) and it was working just fine on his LG. Hawx on the other game is also a very demanding game from the same company and it's working great! :\
