Not yet. I doubt it will help but I know it won't hurt so I might as well. Probably later tonight. I know it isn't an overclock problem. My fsb was 117 on my Duron but I lowered it to 105 to run the memory at FSB+PCI speed and that changed nothing significant about my net speeds. The K6 system is running on a 112mhz fsb. The cards AMD $10 cheapies.

There is a great deal of variance, even within the same brand and model of of nic's when it comes to O/C tolerance. I have three Netgear nic's that will do 140 FSB or 37.5 but won't go over that. I have seen reports by other with the same nic that do much better. Good Luck!

I had a similar problem Eobard... my DSL servcie could not correct it... I did install after install... always crappy compared to my Macs on the same LAN... installed WIN 2K... and I am rockin' @ about 15% faster than the Mac I could never beat

Okay, first test showed: 203/down and 372/up
second test showed: 1282/down and 384/up

I'm going to be real honest, I don't know if those are good or bad. It's hard to believe that your speeds differ that much. I guess I have to learn, day by day!

Well I just tried the swap thing with no appreciable change. I got 521 down by 128 up with the card that's been in the Duron since the start and 512 down by 147 up with the card that was in the K6-2. Good suggestion though.

Cracking open the K6-2 did give me a chance to tweak it abit though. By upping the i/o voltage to 3.6v it looks like I've finally got 558mhz stable. I've had 560mhz and even 600mhz stable before but that was 112X5 and 100X6 respectively. Now I'm at 124X4.5, hopefully my SETI times will lose an hour or two.

My Sandra cpu benches stayed about the same (from 560 to 558mhz), my memory ALU went up 19%, my memory FPU went up 24% but my hard drive bench went down 19%. Anyone care to hazzard a guess as to why.

Are you following STRICT benching procedures, shutting every thing down?

I shut down all of the stuff like SETI and such but in both cases did keep my anti-virus and this stupid "@home" thingie that I've never been able to delete from my system tray running. So not everything is down but the few things running were running in both instances. May not be 100% perfect test but it's closer than 19% off.

Now how could a man who lets me get away with showing pictures of my cat's butt on his message board ever be considered useless? You don't give yourself enough credit.

I think that benchmark wherein I got about 20% less was just some kind of aberration, I ran the same test again and got a 8% increase. I also ran a disk speed benching utility called mpower( or made by mpower, I'm too lazy to walk the 5 feet to the other machine to check) and got results that, if memory serves me, are slightly above results I've gotten in the past.
