At least, that's what you think... There are issues with routers too, depending on who's firmware is running on them. Sorry, but I can't really elucidate on that at this point.

Port Address Translation (PAT) has issues anyhow, regardless of the device doing the work. Some protocols just don't work through PAT!

Well I am basing this on experience. I have one at home and set up one on the network I set up at church. Both run flawless and have added to connection speed and dl speed. Plus I took the extra work off of the server so it can do it's job.
