Wierd laptop problem. OK, so I have an old tecra 740CDT laptop. I baught a c-130 wireless card, and installed it on windows 2000, it worked great. I didn't like how slow windows 2000 ran on the 166Mhz pentium, so I downgraded to 98se, well the card has drivers for it, so I did it. With a different drive I installed 98se, and everything went ok, until I inserted the wireless car. It picked up the card fine, but when it came time to restart, the system will hang at the double beeps for the pcmcia card init. Now, the system hangs up when it boots with the card, and when you insert it. System runs fine with old wirednetwork pcmcia card. Keep in mind, the card works great with windows 2000, I have tried switching to 2000, and it works, but it just dont want to work with 98se. 2000 is just too slow for me. Please help. |
All the latest drivers and updates for Win98 installed? Rob |
all the drivers are, but not the windows updates, I will do that first thing tommorrow, thanks. |
Possibly the pcmcia card is cardbus, when the cardbus controller in the toshi isnt supported by win98. |
Do you still find Windows updates for Win98? I thought MS has retired the support for Win98.... |
Yea, MS has retired the 98 and 98SE support, but continued to support ME. Why anyone in their right mind would want to do support for ME is beyond me, but such is life. |

You have to download the updates manually, and install them. I did that, still doesn' work. Maybe win98 doesn't support a 32-bit cardbus? |
