Nokia Lumia 900 review

Quote:

THE LATEST PRODUCT of the Microsoft and Nokia love-in has arrived in the form of the 4.3in Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone. The handset is essentially a larger version of the Lumia 800 aiming to appeal to those who are after a sizeable Windows Phone device, perhaps as a Live Tiled alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S III. Although Microsoft's mobile operating system remains still under-developed when pitted against the competition, this is without a doubt the best Windows Phone yet.
Review: Nokia Lumia 900 review - The Inquirer

Bit of a thin review, really. The Inquirer like WinPho (I can see why); however...

Battery life?
Network acquisition?
Call quality?
Responsiveness of the OS? (Other reviews have criticised WinPho Mango as "leisurely" and favouring system animations over user responsiveness).
Build quality? (Other reviews aren't keen on the screen standing proud of the casing, rather than flush as with the L800, the separate metal widget for removing the sim or the silly plastic covers over the ports).
The fact that the restrictions on hardware set by MS mean that it's a 2008-spec phone being launched as a flagship product in 2012? (WXVGA screen, pretty but unfinished OS, underpowered processor... how very N900.)

I think the reality is that Nokia phones were never that good - they never used to have too much competition to contend with, hence they had some financial success until now.

A little unfair on Nokia - their basic phones and feature phones were outstanding. It's their smartphones that failed to deliver, especially after the half-eaten fruit merchants brought out a device that made the N95 look like something from Fisher Price...
