Update: new Client 6.12 beta8

there are also new wu's, worth 479 points

I overclocked my 8800GT a bit (core 750/shader 1900/mem 1125)
down to 1min 17sec per % on a p5004, without oc 1min 27sec (700/1700/1000)

Guys get your 8xxx series card folding! We need only ten 8800GT to double our daily output

I recieved the new Maximus Extreme that was RMA'd and have it set up now.

I have a sneaking feeling that SLI yields a diminishing return. From what I can see so far, I'm better off with the two cards in separate machines, from a folding point of view.

I assume that you mean in folding.

I still have issues with this running. Get's a little jumpy at times. Not running SMP or anything else. I will have to play with it more.

Sam;
Are you running the correct drivers for CUDA-enabled cards?

They're on this page:
Download CUDA Code - complete and free toolkit for creating derivative works

new core available (v.1.06)

- quit the client
- rename or delete fahcore_11.exe located in the start-in folder
- start the client, it should download the new core automatically

I've got it running ok on my quad together with the SMP cpu client.

I had to manually set the GPU client affinities to one core and the SMP client to the other three. There are better tools than windows has for this purpose. Using Task manager, you'll have to set it every time you start up. I have another tool that has the ability to store the affinity settings in a profile so you don't have to do that.

When I'm sure it works I'll post the instructions here.

EDIT:
Note this post by Vijay Pande re: multi-GPU support. There isn't any as yet, so don't go crazy with your SLI rigs. Instead, read this about violations of the client EULA. Looks like multi-GPU support should be coming "soon":

Hot Multi-gpu News

OK, hot news for multi-GPU stuff. This information just released today:

Folding Forum • View topic - 1.07 *IS* *Multi-GPU*

Folding Forum • View topic - A new Nvidia core (v1.07) for users w/ multi-gpu boards

It's a forced core upgrade, so it will happen automatically; if you don't want to wait just delete the core file and start the client, and it will download 1.07.

I haven't figured out all of the technobabble as yet. I am busy tuning my new 9600GT on the quad machine. But later I'll see what I can do with 2x8800GT on the Opteron 185 machine.

Good luck all.

The affinity-setting utility works for me, so here's the link to get it:
Get and Set CPU Affinity - Set Affinity II - Edgemeal Software

Use this utility to set the GPU client to one core, then set the CPU client to the other three. It will remember the settings and every time you start the clients, it will set the affinities in the same manner.

On my Q6600/9600GT I'm completing 1 frame in 1:25-1:35. I have the card overclocked; stock speed it does about 2:00.

If you want to overclock your card, here is what I found. The shader settings are the most effective. I can go about 20% over stock speed for folding there, without touching the GPU core; if I bump the GPU core it would do more, but the heat becomes a factor. Shader overclock doesn't seem to affect the temps much. If you have water on the card I'm sure you can get some significant gain here, but I don't have it.

I had bad experience with overclocking the memory clock. I can't seem to budge it at all from stock for folding[although for gaming it'll easily go 25%]. If I do, the WU immediately EUEs. So for now at least I'm staying away from that one.

Here you guys are raving about the new 177.35 drivers and how great they are with folding & I've been raving about them because of my game performance and graphics quality, not to mention these drivers enable PhysX in the 8 series cards!
Seems either way this is a very good driver heh?

Newly released 177.83 CUDA-enabled driver from nVidia here:
Force Within: Download

I went from 177.35 to 177.79 for a speed increase of about 3%. Folks are already reporting gains from 177.79 with this new driver; probably it's worth checking out.
