OK, I did not make it clear.
1: GPU & CPU together, GPU has a 5506 and is running 2k.
2:CPU is shut down. [my error was not shutting down the service] GPU is done and picks up another 5506 and is now doing 3k again.
3: Working on setting up a computer for Mareen to use by way of the TV, I reboot this rignot thinking at all about the CPU until I checked in to see what you had to say.
The CPU & GPU were both running and the GPU has a 5022 running at 2k. I have shut down CPU as a service so that isn't going to interfere. You are right though, this is a slow one. It's at 92% now. Does this clear it up a little?

Well, it apears that I was wrong. GPU finished and picked up another WU, a 5022. PPD is 2k.

I am by, nature, compulsive. it took me two weeks to make up my mind to buy the open box
MSI 9600GT for $89.99 with free shipping. did I mention I was a tightwad too? my budget,
for stuff computer related, has taken a hit. contract negotiations have not been productive
and we face another year without a decent pay increase.

The GPU folding is making it's mark. Check out these daily PPD.
It used to take many many rigs to put out these numbers.

9600GT arrived, installed with 175.16 Drivers and downloading the GPU Client and the rest. going
to build another boxen, air cooled, single core and let the GPU fold. I really want to put two of these
on the SLI board with a DualCore or Quad!
look out Sam. I might be able to stay ahead of you a little longer.

The GPU client runs on the 175.** drivers? I thought you had to have the 177.35 and above. What gives?

CUDA has been present for some time before 177.35. But that was the driver listed on the CUDA download site when the GPU client was released, so everybody thinks it's the first CUDA-enabled driver. I posted the designation for the first CUDA driver somewhere but I can't find the post. IIRC it was 174.something

And the hours and hours I've spent trying to get this damn board to accept 177.** drivers wasn't necessary at all. Ain't that great.

actually, Cuda 1.1 with 169.21 drivers. Cuda 2.0 now with 177.84 Drivers. it looks like I need to
uninstall the 175.16 drivers then install Cuda. that will have to wait for the new build.
my major reason behind GPU folding is to have something for the socket 939 CPU to do. it gets
500 ppd on SMP. I expect more from the GPU.
come to think of it, the socket 754 board is PCIE.

It wasn't a deep dark secret - I found the post and it's on the first page of this very thread It's one of the posts I suggested that you read before installing:

http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/samuk...tml#post475786

When the GPU client was released, that post was current information. PG said that you must use 174.55 or better to run the client. However, on the official CUDA download page, 177.35 was posted at that time. Users were reporting major production gains with 177.xx, so I think that most everyone would have used the more current driver. And rightfully so.

Are you confident that 174 would have installed easier than 177?

My rig is down for a few days so you will stay ahead for a while. moving it to a new case so all the water parts will fit. That little clear cube case is well....little.

I have been using the 177.9x whatever drivers. they are very fast in games and folding. I have been watching the price of used 8800s fall to a sub 100 dollar price. These things fold like a mad man. Cheap SLI boards and dual video would make a great farm.

I haven't been issued one of the "new" 430 point WUs in several days. I can't seem to get an answer from the Pande guys as yet and that usually means there is something unusual happening. Has anyone else noticed the same thing? Do me a favor if you have time: check your logs for WUs #5508-5513 or 5017-5022 and let me know.

I have a feeling there are going to be code adjustments to that set of WUs in addition to a new core. All this on top of the new nVidia driver that is in the works, to help out with the heat problem.

That is why I put water blocks on my cards. They were a little warm....

Sam, do you run a separate loop for the GPUs or are they in the same loop with the cpu?

How many degrees didja lose with water? I'm curious and may do it as well. These 9600 cards run cooler than my 8800s, for sure, but I wouldn't say they are chilly.

I need the Linux GPU client to get released. But Lee may not be too thrilled with the power bill when it does...

did I mention that this card is HUGE?! this will be the third skt 939 mb for this cpu. #2 has started
to show some bloated caps and will be put out of it's misery soon. I may have some southbridge chipset hs fin issues. nothing a dremel can't fix.

What manufacturer is the card, Ron? I've got 2 Leadteks and thay are actually quite a bit more compact than my 8800s. Easy to get three of them in my rig if I wanted. Search for Leadtek PX9600GT for a photo.

TR, I will have it up and running today. I am double and triple checking everything before I start it up. I will let you know. I will post some pics in the case mod section also.
