DVD+R high speed blanks

Best Buy has a sale that is better than advertised. They are selling 2.4x Fuji +R, $10 for a 25 pack. This is instant rebate, so you pay $10 out of pocket.

You may say... so what, it's 2.4x. Well, that's what their web site says, and what the flyer says... At Best Buy, they are selling Fuji 8X +R's, made in Japan. (I bought 2 ).

40cents a quality 8x blank falls into the good deal category, but there's more. . Fuji +R 8x (made in Japan) are supposedly the famed 16x YudenT002 blanks that have been rebadged... I've read that these are supposed to burn at 16x even without modified firmware. In other words, 16x burners are identifying these as TRUE 16x blanks. When I get home I can test these out myself.

If my hope is correct, this falls into the category of an awesome deal.

Good News...

These are the real deal!!!!
I just burned a disc, and this is what the reading was:

Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x

Physical Format Information (ADIP):
Disc ID: YUDEN000-T02-00
Book Type: DVD+R

Note that there are a few revisions out there... The one that is considered the benchmark 16 media is THIS ONE.

Just finished burning a disk @ 5:20. My NEC is a very conservative burner, which is good at avoiding coasters... OPC baby!

I'm running kprobe in the background on the new DVD, and I'll update as soon as it is done. ... I ran out at lunchtime to get these... I'm tempted to go back and stock up tomorrow.

I have an inside track on Yuden +R's but I don't know if they are the same revision.

Here we go... Kprobe, not the most spectacular results, but definitely in the good to acceptable range. For those familiar with the test, and aren't impressed by the results, keep in mind that I am using my combo drive to run this test, which traditionally show much worse results anyway... That being said, I think the results are very good.
