A small Virginia company in a patent fight with eBay asked a federal judge Tuesday to stop the online auction powerhouse from using its "Buy It Now" feature allowing shoppers to buy items at a fixed price.

There is a company saying the eBay is infringing on their copyright by using Buy It Now.

Says they have been awarded $25m in compensation from eBay.

I don't think either party should be able to patent such simple and obvious ideas.

Amazon also have a patent on their "buy now" button. Would make life easier for all of us, if all online shops had the "buy with one click" feature.

Has to, but probably won't. The ones people want to make money out of are eBay, and Microsoft. I am surprised no one's sued google over using whatever (perhaps they could be sued for using a text box to allow searching).

Google has been in a similar situation with Gmail, which is why it's now called Google Mail. I don't knwo is they paid out money, but sometimes these things are settled out of court, in private.
