in serch of someone with some linux/server experance

to make a long story short, i need help . im trying to set up a local linux server to do things like a site ftp, backup web server, and some other things, and everytime i try to do anything it all gets screwed up and i get confused

LOL. I was wondering why you had been promising that for a while and had not delivered

I can help you with the backup web server, as for the ftp, I've never set it up before but I hear proftpd is quite easy to get going.

Anyway, you need to find a file called basic.conf check it over and then rename it to proftpd.conf and put it in the /etc directory. Then from a shell type service proftpd start

While Linux is generally better as a server, have you considered a Win32 alternative?

I don't have l33t *nix skills, so I basically setup a WinNT 4 server with ActivePerl, PHP 4 and OmniHTTPD to run an offline replica of BlueSmoke.

The convenience of testing a new feature / program "live" is simply unbeatable!

LOL. It's only insecure if you don't dl the updates that come up practically 3 times and day and that microsoft doesn't widely publicize. But other than that, it's perfect
