WinXP prof. will not shut down!

hehe....I thought that after i said good bye to the good ols win 98 I would never see that problem anymore.
but yes....again i have a shutdown problem. It will freeze at the screen where it says that the pc is turning off. Weired thing is that if i want to restart it works perfectly.

Any ideas or even a patch that will help me out?
thnx guys!

At least it will reboot properly for you! XP started pulling this cuteness ~1 in 4 times after installing it, but SP1 really made it a problem. After giving it time to shutdown, because the NT family needs more time to do this than Win9x, it's not against the law to hold the Power button in for 4 seconds.

hehe....the diffrence in benchmarks is drastical. whith sisoft i get just a bit above 30000 after i defraged and when i did not for a while i am lucky to reach 10k! :P

Did you have ACPI enabled in the BIOS when you installed the OS? Depending on whether ACPI is enabled, WinXP will install different sets of drivers.

Check device manager. There you should be able to see whether your machine has installed the "ACPI computer" drivers or "Standard PC" drivers.

Right click on "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" and try updating your drivers by selecting "update driver."

Force it to update. It's possible that some of the drivers got mess-up in the transition.
