| not sure, I have just done my dual boot but I havnt gone back into windows to check I'll let you know how mine turns out

This is probably due to differences in refresh rate or slightly different values for hsync and vsync. XFree86 on Linux will ask a DDC monitor what is supports and shoot for the highest refresh rate it can achieve at a given resolution. Otherwise it goes for standard VESA frequencies. It might be as simple as going into xp and see if you can make it match the refresh rate that what Linux has. If your feeling hardcore you could Look into the Linux side and play with xvidtune and a custom modeline for your XF86config file.
