Unhappy BIOS update

Hello
I’m from Portugal. Do you know where it is?
…Ok
I need to put a HDD 40 or 60
I need to actualize the BIOS of my PC
.................................................. ..............
Board: VB-601
Version Board: i440BX-2469KF09C-00
………………………………………….
I’ve downloaded the files from AOA has advise from “FIC Technical Support”

A: FIC has updated the BIOS versions released for VB-601 to include
Support HDs of up to and beyond 65GB. They are MI4118, ME4118, 115MC135 and flash789.exe. Please stay with your original serial version to upgrade the BIOS.

They sad “FIC has updated” but the files does not live there. For good they where on AOA. Thanks!

My question:
1º What is the right file to update my Bios MI4118, ME4118, 115MC135
2º I didn’t find “flash789.exe”,I’ve downloaded “WINFLASH.EXE”. Is it right?
3º I’ve WinME and I’ve read things not so goog about WinME. It is better reinstall Win98 to do the upgrade Bios?

Please Help me
Thank's

Welcome to AOA Forums, ajlb!

The BIOS can be updated when Me is on your machine, let's hope someone who know's how will add to this thread.
If an Me expert doesn't answer your question, I suggest that removing Win Me and installing Win 98 before you flash your BIOS is a very good idea.

Updating BIOS is always a little dangerous. You might temporarily put the 40 Gb hard drive into your PC as a Slave on the Primary IDE channel, or a Master or Slave on your Secondary IDE Channel.

If the new drive is seen as a 40 Gb (more like 38 Gb) hard drive, you don't need to update your BIOS.

If you must update the mainboard's BIOS, I would follow FIC's directions. If you need "flash789.exe," don't use "WINFLASH.EXE."

Edit. I spent a summer in the Algarve many years ago. I know where Portugal is.

You don't need to worry about what operating system you're running when you flash the BIOS, unless you're trying to do it from within Windows. And I haven't heard anything good about that method. The operating system will be a stripped version of MSDOS loaded from a boot floppy. Set your system to boot from the floppy, insert the boot disk, and you won't even have to have a harddrive connected. You can make one by formatting a floppy and choosing the Copy System Files Only box, or by downloading an executable from www.bootdisk.com .
When you download the BIOS from FIC, it is a zipped file that includes the flash utility they want you to use, Flash73, the BIOS file, and a couple of Read Me files. I'd stick with the flash utility they recommend. Just to be sure, there are several different revisions of your motherboard, be sure you have the correct BIOS for your motherboard.

Good news is always welcome! No need to close the thread, it will fade into the sunset all by itself.
